It's Friday the 13th ..

Unread post by Eric »

Yeah so it is that day .. Friday the 13th! Which is actually based on a historical event having to do with the Knights Templar, but anyway ya .. And it's almost Halloween .. I cam across this other article out of Owosso for another activity ..
OWOSSO — Today is Friday the 13th.

Scared yet?

Anyone haunted by triskadekaphobia (fear of the number 13) is probably not reading this, and is instead spending the day hiding under their covers.

Superstitions aside, those who don’t mind a little scaring should look for some fun tonight. After all, while there may be as many as three Friday the 13ths in any given year, a Friday the 13th in October only happens once every six to 11 years.

Haunted houses your thing? There isn’t one in Owosso, but anyone game for a drive to St. Charles will be rewarded by the Village of the Living Dead.

Located at 400 E. Water Street, the attraction has been put on for nearly 40 years by a local non-profit as a fundraiser to benefit youth of the area.

Hours for Village of the Living Dead are from 7 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays from 7 to 10 p.m. The attraction will also be open from 7 to 10 p.m. on Halloween night.

Want to stay close to home, but still want a good scare?

For two nights this month — including tonight — the regular corn maze at Fortitude Farms and Events in Owosso will be transformed into a haunted corn maze. The haunts will return on Saturday, Oct. 28.

As if cornstalks closing in on all sides wasn’t scary enough … There will be no telling what visitors to the maze might hear or see. To find out, come check it out for yourself.

Tickets are $15 per person, and may be purchased online at fortitudefarms.com/cornmaze. Fortitude Farms and Events is located at 4377 S. M-52.

Ticket sales end at 9 p.m. nightly, and the maze remains open for 90 minutes after ticket sales stop.

Don’t want to get scared at all, but still want to enjoy this time of year?

Be sure to check into “Ghoul’s Night Out,” running from 5 to 8 p.m. today in downtown Owosso. Most downtown businesses will remain open into the evening, and a map will be available to help shoppers make their way through downtown.

Special one-night only deals include buy two candles, get one free at Owosso Candle Co., $3 off any puzzle priced $9.99 and up at Springrove Variety Store and buy one item at regular price, get the second at 50 percent off at Norm Henry Shoes.

All that walking and shopping make you hungry and thirsty? Downtown eateries will have special treats too, including dinner specials at Niche Bar and Lounge, $1 off 6 ounces of cookie dough at Owosso Cookie Co. and even get a sneak peek at the soon-to-open Taphouse Meat Market.

Get your map signed at each participating business and turn it in at Home Field Michigan, 205 W. Main, for a chance to win a basket of good things from participating merchants.

Does your idea of spooky mean things that can be hard to explain? Stop into the Eccentric Emporium in Studio Owosso, located on the third floor of 120 W. Exchange St. Those brave enough to attend will encounter paranormal and metaphysical services, along with hand-crafted items.

Whatever the night holds, make it spook-tacular! Happy Friday the 13th!
